gooolllld

a little more mainstream, everyday and "i'm not crazy" than grease, one of my fall 08 beauty trend obessions is brown and gold...

from roberto cavalli and moschino fall 08 shows respectively (thank you stylelist)

get the gold look with ...

all over shimmer from stila, benefit's gilded eyeliner, lorac's "glam rocks" eye shadow,

when it rains

i'm a weather nerd...especially when it comes to rainy days. my biggest pet peeve is being caught off guard and therefore drenched by whatever crazy storm hits during my commute home.

daily candy to the rescue...they filled me in on "umbrella today," a website where you type in your zip code and it lets you know whether or not to toss that rain gear in your bag...\

genius!

I'm thrifty, dammit!

The fiance and I live together in a decently-sized (by NYC standards) one-bedroom apartment. Unfortunately it only has one TINY bedroom closet, which is a problem considering that we both have slightly ridiculous amounts of clothes and shoes. We've talked about getting a bigger dresser for our bedroom but naturally don't want to spend $1,000+ for a nice one. So imagine my surprise when I found this in our trash room on Saturday:Someone was throwing away this beautiful, clean, HUGE dresser -- so of course I had to save it! I called the fiance at work to tell him about it and he thought I was a little crazy -- until I sent him a picture of it, when he said "Put a note on it so nobody takes it!" When he got home we dragged it down the hall to our apartment and spent two hours re-arranging our closet and filling our lovely FREE new dresser with tons of clothes. I was so proud of finding and saving it -- Lucy even likes it! And that was my excitement for the weekend.

forever frugal fridays

this vest...fun to play with, huge fall trend and wont break the bank...

Another reason why Indiana is the best...

There's a great Indiana-based stationery designer named Jane Boatman Geller who makes gorgeous classic-with-a-preppy-twist paper goods for her company, Boatman Geller, that are just to die for. I have a set of monogrammed toile notecards from her that I got for Christmas one year, and I rationed them out since I loved them so much! So when I read my daily email from DailyCandy, I was not at all surprised to see that this adorable new stationery line, carrie and tuck, was from the folks at Boatman Geller! How cute is this:
Love love love. Mom: one word for you. CHRISTMAS! :)

Forever frugal Fridays.

It's cold and rainy in NYC, so all I want is a cozy sweater like this to curl up in (preferably on my couch and not in my office, but what can you do). And for about 25 bucks, I might need it in every color...

Reasons why I love "The Office."

5. Stanley. He's hilarious.
4. Holly actually thought Kevin was retarded.
3. Andy might call off his engagement to Angela if she won't let his college acapella group perform at their wedding.
2. Holly and Michael's rap about losing weight.
1. Jim FINALLY proposes to Pam. LOVE IT!

So glad good TV is back!

citizen cope

“When I was a kid, I was a listener,” says Clarence Greenwood, a.k.a. Citizen Cope. “Music was something coming out of a radio or off a record, something that made me feel these things I couldn’t explain. It was magical to me, and I thought it was something you had to be ordained with.”

What’s clear when you listen to Cope’s own music now, years after he sat transfixed in front of his stereo speakers, is that he *is* ordained. Or touched. Or blessed. Or however you want to say it: The man has the gift.

I. Love. Dogs.

And so does Valentino. His little troupe of Pugs, including Milton, Monty, Maude (we knew he was a Bea Arthur fan), Margot, Maggie, and Molly, follow him everywhere. They live good lives, let's just leave it at that. I can't for the life of me figure out how to embed the video, but here's the link - Lucy wishes she could live like this!

fashion rocks.

Fashion week ended a few weeks ago, but everyone is still talking about the fashion, the beauty, the gossip, and the music. There's always a few small bands plucked from obscurity because their music has a great beat and lends itself well to models stomping down the runway. This year one of the bands/groups was Santogold, a NYC-based group named after Santi White, the lead singer. Their music is sort of rock-rap-electronica mashup, and I'm loving their songs Creator and L.E.S. Artists. Good stuff!

Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan, partners of 14 years, just tied the knot in San Francisco. Jonathan has an amazing home decor line and Simon is the creative director at Barneys. Such a stylish couple! They also have an adorable dog named Liberace. Love it! They are definitely one of my favorite celebrity couples, and it's wonderful that they were able to marry.

forever frugal fridays.

Now that summer is over, people are actually in New York City on the weekends again, which means I might actually have a social life again, which would be nice. It also means I'll need to get some new going-out stuff -- this oversized clutch would make a great addition to my collection. I actually saw it in the store last weekend and it was surprisingly nice-looking...and of course, now I'm wishing I had bought it. For only $18.80, how can you not?

baby it's cold outside.

Today really feels like fall. It was 52 degrees when Lucy and I went out for our morning walk, and once we hit the cold air, she looked at me like, "really?" I was wearing a fleece so I was warm, but her poor little ears were freezing. I think it's time to look for a dog coat.

I think this would actually keep her warm. Too bad it's a "down shooting vest" and costs $115. Next!

A coat might be better than a sweater since I wouldn't have to pull it off and on. This barn coat is cute and looks warm.
Or I love this one - a little Barbour jacket for dogs! I know their people coats are warm, so I bet this would be too.
I know I'm gonna hear it from shift for writing a post on dog clothing...but how cute would Lucy look in a coat? Plus, it's Friday morning. No serious work is going on until the coffee kicks in.

current obsession: MAC cosmetics tinted lip conditioner spf 15

I'll admit it: I'm a total beauty snob. I rarely try new products unless I can (a) get them for free or (b) they come highly recommended from beauty editor or makeup artists. MAC's Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15 fits both of these requirements, and I can see why! It has just enough color to show up on your lips but isn't tacky or sticky like a gloss. The colors are sheer, so don't be scared by the bright colors in the jar. I love Petting Pink and Plum Perfect for fall. My only complaint would be that I have to apply with my fingers...but nobody's perfect, right?

luggage...who knew?

apparently pottery barn sells luggage...i kinda like it...

{loves it}

Martha Stewart did a show today on blogs and the bloggers that write them (how I forgot to DVR this is beyond me). On her website, Martha had some of her employees list their favorite blogs. One was {this is glamorous} and I'm totally in love:

Talk about impeccable taste. Fashion, beauty, home decor. What more could a girl want? I'm hooked.

grr.

All I want to do is go to Chicago to visit Shift. I haven't been there in almost three years (work trip last fall didn't count), so there are new apartments to see, boys to meet, and lots of sisterly catching up to do. But the stupid airline industry is getting in the way, with its reduced flights, ridiculous rules about using frequent flier miles (don't even get me started) and airfares that cost half a paycheck. But I swear I'll make it happen before it gets cold and snowy in Chicago...I know, I better act fast.

need it. now.

I love monograms, and I love organizing. So naturally, these monogrammed file folders are calling my name. They just happen to be ridiculously expensive. But how cute are they?!

grease much?

even though the tents in bryant park are down, the trends of fashion week are all anyone seems to be talking about...

i was browsing style.com when i came across an article announcing the newest beauty trend...straight from fashion week...grease.

you heard me.
"Hands down, eye gloss dominated the runways in NYC, with Charlotte Tilbury adding Vaseline to chocolate brown and black cream shadows at Matthew Williamson, Diane Kendal dipping into what she called a “grease pot” at Proenza Schouler, and Dick Page making good use of the same tinted goop at Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs while adding Aquaphor to liner at Narciso Rodriguez. When asked his opinion on the burgeoning trend, Page did not miss a beat: “You know, you just can’t put much more gloss on your lips. Its like everyone’s been eating pork chops for the last few years. I don’t know how much more gloss the lip can carry, so maybe it’s just migrating north.”

i think i may pass on this one...

Maybe I am ready for fall.

It was really hot and humid in NYC this weekend. Humid like you start sweating as soon as you step outside humid. Hot like if you're dumb enough to eat outside at a restaurant, forget about crossing your legs because your legs are sweaty too. I am not a fan of this kind of weather, unless it involves a pool or beach. Maybe I'm ready for fall after all...

forever frugal fridays

It's really starting to feel like fall in New York, which is scary. I'm not ready for cold weather yet. But I am ready for cute, cozy sweater dresses like this one:Obviously you'd have to remove the cheapo belt it comes with and replace it with a nicer one. Would be cute with black tights and black patent pumps!

you wanna know where i've been?

Came back from vacation on Monday, work is insane, Lucy got fixed yesterday and is clearly grumpy and drugged (see above), have been neglecting my freelance pr gig, had a client dinner last night, trying to ask all my bridesmaids in the span of a few days so they don't get mad for being the last one asked...and to top it all off, it's our first full-length, non-summer Friday since May. I need a drink. Or five.

home adoration

cobalt blue chair +zebra pillow + metallic desk +punch of pink with peonies = loove

via so haute

mental note

ordering boots online is never a good idea...does anyone know if you can stretch rubber?

i've wikiied, googled and blog searched...here are the lame-o suggestions i have found...
  • "Try this, bake in oven at 250 degrees for 20 minutes and then slip them back on over a couple pairs of socks"
  • "To stretch shoes, slip a leak-proof plastic bag into the shoe, fill with water, ensuring it fills the shoe completely. Close securely and freeze. The water expands and stretches the shoes"
  • "To stretch tight shoes, pack with potato peelings and leave for 48hrs"

so my options are baking, freezing or potatoes...wtf?

Dang those indecisive genes.

While in Charleston, we hit King Street and did some shopping. We usually have lots of luck in J.Crew, and this trip was no different -- only that I hesitated on buying a $98 cotton skirt and am now totally kicking myself for it since the skirt is now sold out online and in pretty much all the stores. Oh, paintbrush floral Belle skirt, where are you?

It's not even online at all anymore. I would wear it with flats, pumps and boots and tights once it gets cold out. Might have to see if my little personal shopper friend at the SoHo store can track it down for me. It's worth the price if it haunts you, right? Right?

Is it bad that I want to go back already?

All the kids had a great time in South Carolina (see exhibit a, above). Such a great time, in fact, that Lucy is now depressed to be back in the concrete jungle that is Manhattan. (In her defense, it is cold and rainy.) I stood on the subway on my way to work this morning, chilly from the rain, smushed between other grumpy commuters, trying to figure out a way I could move there and not have to be a waitress or something...gonna have to work on that.
