old navy: who knew?

We've all heard it before: the economy is tanking, gas is obscenely expensive, the housing market sucks. But I still want to shop for fall clothes and shoes. Enter Old Navy, a store that doesn't get much love here in NYC but still manages to have cute shoes:

Who knew Old Navy had such cute shoes? And at $19.50 each, who cares if you wear them for a few months and trash them (which is inevitably what happens if you live in a big city like Chicago or NYC and walk to work). Yes, they all come in black too.

Update: I've given up on trying to make the photos look nice. I can't figure it out.

adele

this is me telling you that if you like etta james, amy winehouse or even diana krall...adele is someone you want to hear. she's not classic, or cracked out or even experienced...she's 19 with a voice that stuns.

the ny times said "Late last year the mainstream British press hailed Adele as “the new Amy Winehouse,” a facile yet complicated bit of praise. Onstage Adele mentioned Ms. Winehouse only in passing, but right before the song that most evoked her: “Right as Rain,” a pensive and indignant breakup ditty with a shamelessly retro-soul sound"

i'm no music critic but her album 19 (which to be fair is all about love @ 19 and at times, the immaturity shows) is definitely worth checking out.

Forever Frugal Fridays

One of the countless wedding blogs I read has a great weekly post the author calls "Forever Frugal Fridays," which features a great find at a great price from Forever 21. I think this is an awesome idea, so we're going to do a similar post here on jumperskirt! (My bad for not remembering which blog this is - but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?) Here is my first pick (and since Shift is already gone for the weekend - jealous that her summer Fridays are shorter than mine - she doesn't get a pick this week!):

Maxi dresses like this are really popular in NYC, especially when the weather is really hot and humid like it has been here lately. They're great for traveling too, since they're cute but comfortable - throw on some metallic flats and some bangles and you're good to go. And for under $30, you can't NOT buy it, right?

thoughts on cuteness

once you spend a little time with us, you will realize we have different ways of looking at and/or describing things.

her: I was out late...like 2:00am
me: I was out late...like 5:00am

her: these heels are high (3 inches)
me: these heels are high (5 inches)

so when it comes to "cuteness" tags mine will look like this...

very different defintion of cute...

but i can admit that dog of hers is friggin cute :) too

sunny dilema

i'm on the hunt for new sunglasses...but im not paying a small fortune for them. i have one nice pair of shades and they were a gift. the rest are scratched, crocked and/or stretched out. i'm not the kind of person that takes off sunglasses, wipes them with the correct cloth and then stores them in a box. i'm the kind of person that wears them on her head or tosses them into her purse.

My love of J.Crew is borderline embarassing. I drool over their catalogs, visit a store about once a week, and know the salespeople by name. But their stuff is classic, feminine, and (usually) affordable.

So this morning I discovered a blog, J.Crew Aficionada, which is devoted to all things J.Crew. The author discusses what's new, what's sold out (and how to find it), and what's on sale. She also posts discount codes. Genius! I am so adding this to my google reader RIGHT NOW.
